Boleskine House Opens to the Public for the First Time in 260 Years
Earns a Place In TripAdvisor’s Top 10 “Things To Do In Inverness” In the First Week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Inverness, Scotland — 21 April 2026 — Boleskine House, one of the most storied properties on Loch Ness, is now open to the public for the first time in its 260 year history, marking a definitive milestone in one of Scotland's most ambitious heritage restoration projects. The Grand Opening Weekend, held on 10–11 April 2026, drew more than 600 visitors from across Scotland and around the world, and early public response has been extraordinary.
In just the first week after the Grand Opening, Boleskine House achieved a perfect 5.0 rating on TripAdvisor and has entered the platform's rankings as one of the top 10 “Things to Do In Inverness.” Reviewers praised the quality and care of the restoration, the warmth of the staff and volunteers, the beauty of the grounds, and the rich history of the house itself. One visitor remarked, “From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care, dedication, and thought had gone into every detail," while another called it “truly a magical place."
"We always believed that if we could bring this place back, do it right, and do it honestly, that people would feel it,” said Keith Readdy, Chair of The Boleskine House Foundation SCIO, the registered Scottish charity that restored the property. “To see visitors from around the world walk through these rooms and connect with the full depth of what Boleskine represents, and to be recognised so quickly by the travelling public as one of the top experiences in the area, is a testament to everyone who believed in this project when it was still just a shell. This is their achievement as much as ours."
Built in the 1760s on the south shore of Loch Ness, Boleskine House has stood for over two and a half centuries as one of the Highlands' most intriguing properties and a key witness to Highland history. Following devastating fires in 2015 and 2019, and years of painstaking restoration, the house and its 35-acre estate are now ready to welcome members of the public as a living centre for heritage, culture, and conservation.
A visit to Boleskine House offers something genuinely unlike any other experience in the Highlands. Guided tours lead visitors through grandly restored period rooms, each reflecting a distinct chapter in the house's complex history. Outside, 35 acres of grounds include native wildflower meadows, bee hotels, and newly planted native trees and hedgerow, all set against sweeping views of Loch Ness that have been drawing visitors to this shoreline for centuries. The house is open for tours daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Whisky and gin tastings are also available in the afternoons. Advance booking is strongly recommended.
