Boleskine Nature Events: Community Wildflower Harvest

Join us for a Community Harvest Day in our wildflower meadows! With funding from Highland Council, we’ve invested in a new seed harvester, and this is your chance to see it in action and get hands-on with the seed harvesting process from start to finish.

What to expect

Over the course of the day, you’ll learn:

• How wildflower meadows are established and maintained
• How our new seed harvester works, and how we use it to harvest seed across the site
• How harvested seed is hand-sorted on drying matting, before being packaged and stored for reuse

There’ll also be time to get involved in sorting and sifting through the harvested seed spread out on the matting — a great way to see the process up close and lend a hand.

Bring a small envelope or packet with you and you can take some wildflower seed home to start your own patch in the garden.

Please note: this event is weather-dependent. The event is all-day but we recommend arriving from noon onwards to allow the wildflower field time to dry.

Seed can only be harvested when the meadow and seed are dry, so we need a dry day with no rain beforehand. If poor weather forces us to cancel on 5 September, we’ll move the event to Sunday 6 September and try again then.

Because of this, please sign up in advance so we can:

• Let you know quickly if the event needs to move to the Sunday
• Get a sense of numbers for the day
