Boleskine House Featured as Renewable Energy Success Story

Local Energy Scotland Highlights Our Heritage Sustainability Project

We’re delighted that Boleskine House has been featured as a case study by Local Energy Scotland, showcasing our pioneering approach to combining heritage restoration with renewable energy technology.

The case study, published in July 2025, highlights how we successfully transformed our energy systems whilst maintaining conservation standards for our B-listed building.

£80,000 Renewable Energy Installation

With support from the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES), we received an £80,000 capital grant to replace our inefficient oil-fired heating system.

The project, completed in February 2025, includes:

  • Two 10kW air source heat pumps
  • 33 solar photovoltaic panels generating 10kW of clean electricity
  • 16.4kWh battery storage system

Setting the Standard

As we stated in the case study: “This project ensures that Boleskine House can operate as a low-carbon heritage site, setting an example for renewable energy use in historic buildings whilst reducing environmental impact for future generations.”

The installation demonstrates that historic buildings can successfully integrate modern renewable technology without compromising their heritage value, creating a sustainable community hub for the future.

Community Impact

By generating and storing our own clean electricity, we’ve increased our energy resilience whilst dramatically reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. The project represents a significant milestone in our restoration journey, proving that heritage preservation and environmental responsibility work hand in hand.
